“The Anger Antidote”
Introduction
As an Anger Management Consultant, I specialise in helping individuals to recognise and better understand their emotions, so they can respond rather than react when life feels overwhelming. Much of my work focuses on emotional dysregulation in men, although I also work with women who want to understand and change unhealthy patterns of anger and emotional response.
Does anger and conflict rule your life?
Is your marriage or relationship breaking down?
Are you hurting yourself and those around you?
Do you lose your temper with your children, or colleagues?
Are you living with angry thoughts that sometimes take control of you?
If this sounds familiar, I can help you take control of your emotions, break the cycle of anger, and start building calmer, stronger relationships.
Methodology
As a former GP with 25 years’ experience and a former Trustee of the Samaritans, I bring a broad understanding of human behaviour, emotional wellbeing and the complexities of relationships to my work as an Anger Management Consultant. I now work exclusively in this field, and have specific quallifications in areas including Advanced CBT, Inner Child Therapy, EMDR and Neuroplasticity.
My approach combines understanding with practical change. Strategies for managing emotional activation, stress and conflict are important, but techniques alone are rarely enough. Lasting change often requires us to understand what sits beneath the anger: the triggers, beliefs, past experiences, relationship patterns and emotional responses that have developed over time.
I therefore help clients both to understand why they respond as they do and to develop healthier ways of responding. The aim is not simply to control anger in the moment, but to improve emotional regulation, communication and self-control, and ultimately to build healthier personal and professional relationships.
A Personal and Individual Approach
No two people arrive with exactly the same history, triggers or circumstances, which is why I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all anger management programme. It is your individual journey that I am interested in.
Together, we explore the experiences and patterns that have contributed to where you are today, in a safe and non-judgemental environment. My approach is compassionate but direct. Developing insight sometimes means being willing to challenge your own thinking, recognise unhealthy patterns and take responsibility for behaviours that may have caused harm.
An important part of this work is understanding the impact of anger on other people, including partners, family members and children: the hurt it can cause, the damage it can do to relationships, and what needs to change to prevent those patterns from continuing.
Where appropriate and with agreement, I may encourage some involvement from the person who has experienced these behaviours. Hearing their perspective can provide valuable insight into the impact of your behaviour and can help make the work more meaningful and relevant.
There is room for change. Lives can get better, people can learn to respond differently, and relationships can heal. Changing established patterns takes motivation, honesty and work, but unhealthy behaviours do not have to define your future.
Anger Management Programmes and Court Reports
I also provide structured anger management and emotional regulation programmes for individuals involved in Family Court, criminal or professional regulatory proceedings.. I have considerable experience in this area and regularly work with individuals who need to demonstrate meaningful engagement, insight and progress in addressing concerns about anger, emotional regulation or behaviour.
Where appropriate, I can provide a professional written report documenting the individual’s engagement with the programme, the work undertaken, their developing insight, progress made, and the strategies they have developed to manage anger and emotional responses more effectively.
Reports are tailored to the work undertaken and provide a clear, professional account of engagement, insight and progress throughout the programme.
If you are involved in Family Court, criminal or regulatory proceedings and have been advised to undertake anger management work, you are welcome to contact me to discuss an appropriate programme.
